The analyst behind the brief.
Karthik Misra built his career in internal audit at institutions including Citigroup, TD Bank, and Wells Fargo — auditing the risk frameworks that govern some of the largest financial operations in the world: CCAR stress testing, Basel 2.5 market risk, and DFAST regulatory modeling. That work demanded one thing above all else: the ability to independently verify claims, identify what’s missing, and communicate findings clearly to people who need to act on them.
He founded Black Fort in 2016 on a straightforward observation: the geopolitical intelligence market had two ends and nothing in the middle. Enterprise firms like Control Risks priced for Fortune 500 legal budgets. Wire services and aggregators surfaced everything and analyzed nothing. Organizations in between — corporate risk officers, private-equity associates, international travelers, hunting outfitters — were underserved.
Black Fort applies the same independent verification discipline from financial audit to geopolitical risk — source triangulation, contested-claim disclosure, and structured analysis built for decision-makers, not headlines.

Our methodology
Every Black Fort product is built on open-source intelligence (OSINT) — the systematic collection, verification, and synthesis of publicly available information from government sources, verified reporting, and ground-level intelligence networks. Every claim is source-attributed and built to withstand scrutiny.
We do not produce generic risk summaries. We produce actionable intelligence — specific to your destination, your sector, and your timeline.
